One of my favorite fish to catch from inshore are stripers on light tackle. Occasionally, I have used my freshwater bass fishing gear to hit the schoolies with poppers - its great, fast action when you only have a few minutes to go fishing.
When looking for trophy stripers, you need to have the best gear to withstand the punishment of a long battle. When using live bait, I cannot recommend anything other than Gamakatsu circle hooks either in a 6/0 to 8/0 depending on the time of the season. Gamakatsu comes as sharp as anything I have seen, straight out of the package - this means you don't have to waste time sharpening your hooks before you use them. They also tend to stay sharper longer than other brands I have used.
